Today I am reminded of Jesus on the mountain when the enemy tempted Him in Matthew 4:1-11 ( see below )
Most of us want to reflect on this message and say well that was Jesus, things were different for Him. You are wrong! When God decided to do this, He made sure that the entire experience was exactly like us. IN THE FLESH ! (Hebrews 2:17-18)
Jesus done this, not only to show us the way, the truth and the life but He came as the way, the truth, and the life. ( John 14:6 ) God done this for us so that He could also relate to us in our flesh. He showed us it was possible not to sin no matter the temptation because we have all access in Jesus Christ. (2 John 2:17 )
When tempted, Jesus Christ received that He had access to everything already. It was not because He was lavished in money, the best places, and the best people to hang out with. It was not because He had the best job, or circumstance. Jesus had just committed to a 40 day/night fast and He was tired, hungry and had no place of His own to go crawl into bed and hide or eat whatever He wanted.
But when Jesus was tempted with the food, the opportunity, He refused it no matter how tired, or hungry He was to have that appetite of the flesh fulfilled. Jesus knew He had access to all those things already. Jesus knew that He was walking out His fast, commitment, and sacrifice to save all of us. Therefore Jesus stuck with God's plan, promises, provision, practices and He did not waver.
We are tempted by the devil everyday with the best food, whether that is literal food, or gossip, drama, fear, people pleasing, pride, anger, worldly music, tv shows, movies, traditions. ( James 1 ) Can you say to the devil "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”??
Is God good enough for your finances, happiness, bully, enemy, need, time? What does our actions and reactions show? Do we seek the living among the dead and resort to worldly things to feed us, so that we will be satisfied? (Luke 24 )
When we are taken into our city ( Job, School, Church, Community ) When we are tempted at that high temple in that high place to be the best in our class, the leader, the boss, the qualified, the honored, the accepted do we turn from God and accept the devil's offer ? Do we work on our own authority believing we are blessed when we constantly over work, manipulate, strife to get higher and higher on that level. Only to realize when we get to the top with our arms stretched out in our victory and not to the Lord in Thanksgiving. Do you think we made it together because of Him. Is it worth climbing that ladder only to find out it is on the wrong building? Jesus is on the other one. Can we say to the devil "“It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God or His chosen.’ ”?? Or do you fall for it because it is faster and you have made yourself believe God gave you the right to do it?
When on the mountain with the whole world offered to you by satan and all that have decided to work for him. Can you say to him “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”??
Or do you fall for him and show that you believe in his options to get you what you want? The devil will not tell you when you jump off you will lose your God, family, friends, self to achieve the things that he is promising you. The devil is only there to tempt you. You see no matter what he could never give you those things. You choose them over God, and then you kill your spirit and flesh daily to get it while he laughs in your face.
Your actions show who you BELIEVE in, Your actions show WHO you represent. Did you know that? Knowing is one thing, But Showing is access to God. (James 1:22 & 2 Corinthians 5:20 )
You have all access to everything your heart desires, the only thing God ask is that you seek Him first and His right standing. He literally came down here in the flesh so that way you would not just have the written word of God, you would know that the word of God walked this earth in your shoes, so that one day you could follow in His foot steps.
You can know of God, the word, and work for Him all day everyday but until you get to know Jesus and activate Jesus within you. You are truly not saved. Believing is showing that you will do, and access what God has promised you. God's mercy and grace is not for habitual sin. God's mercy and grace is for when you fall short. He is not expecting perfection, but He is also not expecting for you to put Him last.
In Matthew 4:11 the word says..... " Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him." You do not have because you do not ask and trust in the Lord. You do not have because you have not told the devil to get away, you know God got it. This has to be said with an action. Not just prayers. God says this type of need comes with prayer and fasting. Fasting is not always about food. Fasting is about trusting in God and putting aside the plate of anger, manipulation, over working, pride, seeking happiness in dead places and seeking Jesus first in that time.
As you read this scripture know that Jesus "get's it" but He showed you the way, truth and life... You have a way out... Cast the devil out!
Matthew 4:1-11 NKV Satan Tempts Jesus 4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” 5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not [a]tempt the Lord your God.’ ” 8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, [b]“Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” 11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
Decide today to take your power and authority in Jesus Christ. When you turn to Him and begin to Show What You Know in your actions and reactions. Others will see what you done, just like you see what Jesus done. You will give them the same Hope, and Access as Jesus is giving you now.
